SAM-e may also lower homocysteine levels, high levels of which have been proven to cause neurological and cardiovascular problems. Additionally, SAM-e is critical for transmethylation, the process that enables the body to repair cells and detoxify, and also affects the activation, synthesis and metabolism of various biological molecules.

The typical SAM-e dosage is 400-800 mg daily for promoting a healthy mood, liver and joints. It must be consumed as a tablet that is enteric-coated and is in the stabilized and standardized form. As SAM-e is 50% elemental, a product must provide 800 mg gross to equal 400 mg elemental, thereby making it beneficial. NSI SAM-e 200 mg (from 400 mg gross) offers 60 enteric-coated tablets.
